Gilead / Kite: Candidate Experience

Modernizing the
candidate experience
to better reflect
the mission and culture.

As Gilead and Kite continued to grow, the company needed a candidate experience that reflected both the life-changing impact of its work and the culture behind it. The goal was to create a more modern, human, and compelling experience—helping candidates understand not just the role, but why they would want to work there.

The Challenge

The candidate experience across Gilead and Kite felt fragmented and outdated. Recruiting communications and career environments focused heavily on open roles and process, but did little to communicate the company’s mission, culture, or the impact of its therapies. There was an opportunity to create a more modern and welcoming experience—one that highlighted both the life-changing work happening at Gilead and Kite and the reasons people choose to build their careers there.

The goal was to create an experience that felt more personal, inspiring, and aligned with the broader employer brand.

What I Did

  • Assessed the candidate journey across Gilead and Kite

  • Identified opportunities to modernize recruiting communications and touchpoints

  • Developed messaging that highlighted both the company’s therapies and employee experience

  • Shaped career site and candidate-facing environments to create a more human experience

  • Created communications and experience guidelines for use across teams and locations

  • Aligned the candidate journey with the broader employer brand

  • Helped candidates understand not only what the company does, but why people want to work there

The result was a more modern and compelling candidate experience that better reflected the mission and culture of Gilead and Kite—helping candidates feel informed, inspired, and connected from the first interaction onward.

Joe delivered every single time—balancing creative excellence, business needs,
and financial stewardship.

— Patricia Hess, Kite / Gilead
